Emilia Romagna

The Emilia Romagna region is situated between the sea and the mountains and offers to its visitors lovely landscape, wonderful for eyes and soul in a mixture of colors and scents of the earth, joy, music, cinema and art. This region is considered one of the most rich and productive of Italy, thanks to the presence of the Adriatic Sea that keeps a mild climate. The Romagnola coast, with the longest beach of Europe, is excellent for those who like sun and fun. Here it is all equipped for sports and leisure. Places such as Rimini, Riccione, Cattolica are synonymous of excellent tourist reception, relaxation and fun. Parma and Piacenza, with the sight of the Apennines are also excellent city to visit, especially for lovers of horseriding or simply walking through the beautiful parks and amazing nature reserves. There are also many health spa and among them the most important are Salsomaggiore and Bagno of Romagna. Here we find two great poets, Verdi and the poetry of Pascoli until you get to the unique cinema of Fellini, which is important for his masterpieces, whose screenplays came to life in these places. The provinces are: Bologna (country seat), Ferrara, Forlì-Cesena, Modena, Parma, Piacenza, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia, Rimini.

THINGS TO SEE

Art, history, architecture. Emilia Romagna provides all this. Bologna, excellent for fairs and trade especially in the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the most beautiful churches in Italy that praises a unique façade: half raw and half covered with marble. And after so much effort for those who wants to see the city from above, they can climb the 498 steps of the Asinelli Tower that offers a breathtaking view. The city of Ferrara, has been declared by UNESCO World Heritage Site since it is a Renaissance place. Estense Castle is the most representative of this period and is an unique architectural gem. In Modena, city of taste and homeland of tortellini, you can visit the Romanesque cathedral and the Tower of the Ghirlandina. In the city of mosaics, there is no lack of masterpieces. This city is an example of magnificence gained during its long history and it’s important to say that has been capital for three times. There are the Basilica of St. Apollinaris Nuovo, the Mausoleum of Theodoric and the Basilica of St. Apollinaris in Classe. Faenza has an international fame for its ancient ceramics industry, an art that dates back to the thirteenth century. About sports and motor speed in Maranello and Modena, speed lovers can visit the Ferrari Museum in which you can find the whole history of the great brand, his trophies and symbols that made it famous in the world. Imola, however, with its castles and historic squares, is the home of the famous Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, which hosts various cycling events and motorsports.

What to do

In the heart of the Adriatic Coast, Italy in miniature is a beautiful park where the whole family can see precisely in miniature the whole Italy from the north to the south and from east to west with all the most important monuments. Emilia Romagna offers different routes. For nature lovers there are 2 national parks, 14 regional parks and 11 regional reserves. There are also many places of leisure and relaxation for those wishing to dedicate themselves in the green and maybe undertake outdoor activities such as hiking kayak and bike rides. Horse lovers can travel itineraries along the Via Francigena, near Piacenza and Parma, and go into the parks and paths in the whole region. Another path to follow is that of well-being, with numerous thermal baths, which provide therapeutic and regenerating treatments of pleasure and relaxation. For the health spa we can list Salsomaggiore, Tabiano, Bagno di Romagna, Castrocaro, Porretta. Even wine in this beautiful city has an important role and finally, we cannot forget to mention the various fairs and festivals that characterize this region; It’ll be spoilt for choice!

What to taste

In the trip to Emilia Romagna we cannot miss the taste of the local cuisine, with strong and refined flavors: from the peasants of Emilia to the seafaring ones of Romagna passing through of the Comacchio lagoon with its famous eels. Among the traditional dishes we can mention: the typical Erbazzone, a quiche with spinach, pisarei and faso, small dumplings with beans of Piacenza, passing through tortelloni, agnolotti and all types of pasta enriched with fillings, aromas and flavors. In Bologna obviously mortadella takes its role with the piadina. Parma ham cannot miss the list, together wonderful Grana cheese the legendary Parmigiano Reggiano are the backbones of Italian gastronomy temple and represent an Italian pride worldwide. As concern wines, the range starts with Gutturnio, result of the Colli Piacentini to Trebbiano, passing through Lambrusco, Barbera, Cabernet and Sangiovese. So the gourmet cuisine, appraised all over the world, makes Emilia Romagna a popular and esteemed place.
