Things To See

In the region there are many UNESCO sites, starting from Florence. The “Signoria de Medici” is one of the most representative of Florence, indeed represents culture and art par excellence. It is seen as an open museum showing its monuments including the Cathedral with Giotto’s bell tower, Santa Maria Novella, Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery with masterpieces unique in the world. You can also visit the Ponte Vecchio of Lugano and craft shops of the center. Siena, the city theater of the Palio, offers fascinating encounters in the characteristic Piazza del Duomo. The famous tower of Pisa, worldwide known for its inclination is also situated in the “square of miracles” and contributes to increase the value to this city rich in artistic treasures. Piacenza is the “ideal city”: wanted and created by Pope Pius II, put the basis of the Renaissance style. The spectacular arrangement of spaces and the richness of the buildings make it an art treasure, included on UNESCO list. Small towns like San Gimignano are also to visit for its typical tower houses. This is not enough: the Val d’Orcia deserves a special mention, thanks for its views that inspired many artists.

You can have fun also in Apuan Alps with characteristic rough relief, or the lagoons of Robitello and the Maremma Park dominated by the Mediterranean scrub.

From the mountains to the sea we do not miss anything, because here there are numerous spas, each with unique characteristics, including Saturnia, Montecatini or Monsummano Terme, renowned for its detoxifying properties and skin care treatments. In Tuscany there are not only itineraries made to see the landscapes, but also there are real streets dedicated to food and wine tours where you can visit wineries and companies, tasting excellent productions accompanied by typical products. The city life comes alive with cultural, religious and folklore: the Palio of Siena and Carnival the Saracen Joust of Arezzo,to end with the outbreak of the wagon in Florence on Easter Sunday.

What to Taste

Here the cuisine back to tradition with regional products. The basis are: bread, spelled, legumes and vegetables. By tradition we start with an appetizer of crostini with a mixture of chicken liver and spleen, and then meats among which finocchiona, especially for its taste aromatized with fennel. You switch from starter to main course with soups like ribollita or minestone of bean, spelled soup, pici are the spaghetti, widely used in Siena and finally pappardelle with hare sauce. Among the latter stands out the meat and fish with red mullet and Cacciucco, The stockfish of Livorno, while for the meat course, the Florentine. Typical desserts are chestnut cake, buccellato and the nooks. The wine industry is excellent: from Chianti to Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or to the Brunello di Montalcino here you miss nothing to accompany a good dinner.
