Trentino Alto Adige

Between Austria and Switzerland, on the side of Italy there is the region famous for its beautiful mountains, Trentino Alto Adige, Northern summit of the peninsula. Its territory includes the Adamello-Brenta range and the peaks of Ortles and Cevedale to the most striking geographical features of Europe: the Dolomites of the Fassa Valley, Brenta, Val Gardena, Val di Fiemme. Here are some of the most picturesque scenery of unspoilt nature, from the majestic peaks to the woods, valleys and streams that mark these enchanting landscapes. Encased in a play of light between the peaks of the Dolomites there are small countries with the characteristic soaring roofs that blend an authentic and unspoilt nature. And now what everyone expected .. Between the mountains and the nature of this place there are the longest and equipped traks for ski. Trentino indeed is well-known for its tourism: one of the most important areas are Madonna di Campiglio, Canazei, Moena, San Martino di Castrozza. This land of mesmerizing beauty contains the history of the two worlds: the Latin and Nordic one. This holds a remarkable historical, cultural and artistic heritage. There are several spas which offer cures and treatments: Merano, Lèvico Terme, Peio, Rabbi and Comano Terme, to name only the best known. The provinces are: Bolzano and Trento.

THE BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN TRENTINO

The dolomites are a crucial point not to be missed; part of UNESCO, these peaks offer to all its fans a truly memorable experience in winter sports and more. This region also houses some of the monuments and even rock architecture of the Austrian Gothic and Italian Renaissance, here attended by the Ecumenical Council with its cathedral in the Lombard Romanesque style and the Castle of Buon Consiglio. Another thing to see is the “Gateway to the Dolomites” in Bolzano, symbol of the union of the Latin and German culture, the cathedral is the main representation of it. Other places to list are: Rovereto with its museums, castles, the Hermitage of San Colombiano, the great “bell of peace” and the Mart, new modern art hub, and Riva del Garda with the Praetorian Palace and the Fortress of XII century, austere and elegant. Other fascinating places are the Tyrol Castle, the Castel Roncolo, Castel d’Appiano, Castel Beseno in which you may fell like being in a fairy tale.

What to do

Trentino does not miss the complete holiday package. One of the most popular destinations, and the symbol of winter sports are the Dolomites: you can practice skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, rock climbing, “snowshoeing” and trekking at all levels. Among the tourist destinations of international reputation there are Madonna di Campiglio, the Val Gardena with the famous villages Selva Val Gardena, Ortisei and Santa Cristina, Val di Fassa with Canazei and Moena, the Marmolada Group, San Martino di Castrozza in which landscapes are enchanting. In summer Trentino Alto Adige offers the possibility for long walks. A magnificent example are the Stelvio National Park and the woods of Val di Fassa. There are also alternative routes as the path of Peace dedicated to the memories of the First World War. Trentino Alto Adige is not only a place to visit for the beauty of its nature, but also for the evening life in discos, perfect for younger and people of all ages. Winter sports constitute a great attraction but Lake Garda complete the whole painting: surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, here you can practice mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing, diving and excursions on the surrounding mountains. For those who love tranquility and want to taste wine and food, there are itinerary that lead to the vineyards of the famous Pinot Noir to enjoy the local specialties, including delicious chestnuts around Lake Varna and apples from Val di Non with the famous golden delicious in rennet . For the rest of the body, this region offers the Terme di Levico or Merano, famous for radon cures and cosmetic treatments of all kinds. This is also a land rich in folklore events: the characteristic Christmas markets of Bolzano and Merano to San Vigilio festival in Trento at festivals dedicated to wine, chestnuts, mushrooms and other excellent local products; in short, a region in the name of all.

What to taste

Trentino cuisine is simple but with strong and determined tastes based on every product that this region produce in its beautiful nature. Speck is recognized among the cold cuts in Europe, the Kaminwurz, a raw and smoked pork or venison. The most famous among the first courses are “canederli” and polenta, prepared with corn meal or buckwheat, seasoned with meat sauce, cheese or mushrooms. Among others there are the barley soup, pasta and beans, mushroom soup and especially the “brò brusà”, a simple and tasty soup. These are accompanied by main dishes such as rabbit with grappa, goulash, venison with polenta, trout seasoned with various sauces, the “lucanica”, a sausage of pork. The Dessert was ì served with great passion for apples from Val di Non with the strudel, and fruit pies. Remarkable the production of fine wines, including Merlot, Cabernet, Pinot, Chardonnay and the excellent sparkling of the area.
